Norbert G. Dostie
MANCHESTER – Norbert G. Dostie, 76, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024 at his home with his family by his side, after a long illness.
He was born in Augusta on Aug. 10, 1948, the son of the late Joseph G. and Martha E. (Schulenburg) Dostie. Norbert was a graduate of Cony High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He has been retired from the State of Maine, Department of Transportation for many years.
He enjoyed sitting by the campfire at his favorite campground, Cathedral Pines. His favorite pass time was spent fishing, hunting, playing Bingo, going to the casino, mowing his lawn, driving tractors, playing cards with his grandchildren, family and friends, along with watching sci-fi and old war movies. He spent hours playing his favorite game, Grand Harvest Solitaire.
He was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Stanhope of Norridgewock.
Norbert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy A. (Sirois) Dostie of Manchester; his two sons, Brian G. Dostie and his wife Amy (Tufts) of Manchester and Kevin R. Dostie and his wife Jessica (Adams) of Augusta; six grandchildren, Abby Bergeron and her husband Ben, Alayna Bouchard and her husband Keleb, Katie Miller and her husband Ian, and Emelia, Peter and Henry Dostie; two great-grandchildren, Dawson and Lacie Bergeron; and several nieces, nephews; cousins; and friends.
The family thanks the medical professionals for the years of treatment they provided due to his service related illness.
Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, Nov. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Section J, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
