BANGOR — An Albion man was sentenced in U.S. District Court Monday for knowingly making false statements to a federal firearms licensee while illegally purchasing firearms for another individual.
Jason Palmer, 43, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
Court records show that between June and August 2022, Palmer obtained five pistols during five separate transactions with a federal firearms licensee in Fairfield, each time misrepresenting that he was the actual buyer of the firearm on the required form. Palmer also indicated that he was not an unlawful user of any controlled substances.
Palmer admitted to law enforcement that he had been offered heroin and fentanyl in exchange for the firearms, the release said. He pleaded guilty Oct. 24, 2023.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waterville Police Department investigated the case.
