AUGUSTA — Old Fort Western is set to participate in the city’s Christmas celebration on Saturday, Nov. 30.

A Victorian Christmas is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fort Western garrison, 16 Cony St.

Attendees can warm themselves by the hearth or the bonfire outside on the parade grounds. There will be papercutting ornaments and stringing popcorn to decorate the parlor tree.

Participants can also watch gingerbread men being made and baked at the kitchen hearth before sampling them. There will be games and a reading of “The Night Before Christmas,” as well as horse-drawn wagon rides around the fort to the East Side Boat Landing.

The Augusta fireworks are planned to begin at 5 p.m. from the East Side Boat Landing. Those shopping at the fort’s gift shop can view the fireworks from the palisade.

Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

For more information, call 207-626-2385 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays or visit the fort’s Facebook page.
