Dana C. Ashline

WINDHAM – Dana C. Ashline, 77, passed away on November 18, 2024, at Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born in Rochester, New Hampshire on September 2, 1947, to the late Richard and Maxine Colby Ashline. Shortly thereafter, the family returned to their roots in Gardiner.

Dana attended Gardiner public schools before moving to Augusta for his senior year and graduating from Cony High School. He completed his first year at University of Maine at Orono, learning quickly that yet more sitting still and being inside all day was not a good fit for him. He served in the United States Army as a medic from 1970 to 1972, spending the majority of his enlistment in Ansbach, Germany.

Following his discharge from the U.S. Army, Dana went on to work for many years as a carpenter, both on his own and for a number of construction companies in the Augusta area. He prided himself in his work and never forgot the many houses he built. Most recently, Dana worked for Homeport Supply in Damariscotta, installing flooring and tile until his retirement.

Dana was happiest when working and took much satisfaction from activities such as chopping wood, shoveling snow, and felling trees. Any day wielding a chainsaw was a good day. In retirement, he traveled frequently while living in Maine, Florida, and Nova Scotia, where he enjoyed hiking for miles with his dog. When in Maine, he very much enjoyed spending time with his grandson, to whom he passed on his never-ending love for all creatures great and small, but especially for dogs.

Dana is survived by his daughter, Sara Gosselin; grandson, Bentley Mosher; sister, Donna (Mrs. Burleigh) Martin; stepson Anthony Gosselin, Kim Gosselin, and godchild Jillian Gosselin; nephews Jon Martin, Michael Martin, Gary Ashline, Jr., Kevin Ashline, and Corey Ashline, and nieces Lori Bickford, Lisa Soucy, and Mandy Melville; life partner, Corinne Zipps,; and his beloved dog, Boo.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother Gary Ashline, sister Jean Ashline, life partner Ellen Gosselin; and the many wonderful dogs who enriched his life.

Dana’s military honors were held at Maine Veterans Cemetery, 129 Blue Star Ave, Augusta.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church Street, Augusta, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home website, www.khrfuneralhomes.com
