TURNER — A pickup truck was destroyed by fire Sunday morning on Route 4, near the intersection with Bear Pond Road, in Turner, officials said.
Chief Nick Merry of Turner Fire & Rescue said a Chevrolet Silverado was southbound on Route 4 shortly after 11 a.m. and preparing to turn left onto Bear Pond Road, also known as Route 219, when the vehicle caught fire.
Due to the fire, a propane tank in the bed of the pickup truck exploded and ammunition inside the truck discharged, Merry said.
No one was injured in the fire, the cause of which was unknown Sunday afternoon, Merry said.
The Livermore Fire Department responded first to the fire because firefighters from Turner were in training in Wales, Merry said.
The fire caused traffic to come to a standstill on Route 4, Bear Pond Road and Howes Corner Road, all of which reopened at about noon.
