Bruce Allen Northup
BINGHAM – Bruce Allen Northup, 70, of Bingham, passed away unexpectedly due to a cardiac event on Nov. 30, 2024, at his camp in Industry.
Bruce was born in Skowhegan, on Sept. 8, 1954, the son of the late Jay and Virginia (Cates) Northup. He graduated from Upper Kennebec Valley Jr./Sr. High School with the class of 1972. Bruce was a heavy machine operator and wood scaler for multiple logging companies throughout his life. He was especially fond of his years working in the Allagash.
He loved the Maine woods and was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his favorite places to spend time was at his camp in Industry. He shared his love of the woods with his family, even teaching his daughters and granddaughters how to identify different species of trees. He loved watching high school sports, with a particular fondness for softball. He coached Bingham’s elementary softball teams for many years. Most recently, he loved supporting the Skowhegan River Hawks softball and field hockey teams. He was his youngest granddaughter, Sydney’s, biggest fan and loved cheering on her teammates by name. He was also very proud of his oldest granddaughter, Paityn’s, work ethic and loved her sense of humor. He loved gardening and sharing his abundance of fresh vegetables with friends and neighbors. He was a loving father and especially loved his wife Nicole, of 46 years.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Jay and Virginia; brothers Brent and Bradley Northup; and half brother Jay (Butch) Northup III.
He is survived by his wife Nicole (Doyon) Northup of Bingham; his daughters, Amanda Perkins and husband, Shannon, of Skowhegan, Rebecca York and husband, Timothy, of Bingham; his beloved grandchildren Paityn and Sydney Perkins, of Skowhegan; sister Rhonda (Northup) Gilbert, of Concord; brother Jeffrey Northup, of Solon; a special mother-in-law, Florence Doyon, of Waterville; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews who were very dear to his heart.
