Caesar J. “Chic” Schiraldi

CORNVILLE – Chic, 95, was born on April 3, 1929, in Cambridge, Mass. He died at home in Cornville on Nov. 16, 2024.

Chic survived his wife, Elena G. (Marotta), who died in 1981. He is survived by his five daughters, one granddaughter and two great-grandaughters. He is also survived by his second wife, Frances (Iola) and her two sons. Chic was a Navy Veteran who served in the Mediterranean during World War II. He was a Fireman on the destroyer, the USS Warrington. After the war he returned to Massachusetts, married Elena and raised his family, while working in manufacturing at Malden Novelty. In the mid-1970s he moved to Skowhegan, with his family. There, he started Sunrise Drapery and then, with a partner, he started Dirigo Stitching. Dirigo was a major employer in Skowhegan for many years. At age 80, Chic retired. He was busy in retirement building and maintaining his home and lands.

He was an avid bowler, an ace cribbage player, an inventor and builder. Chic had a quick wit, fertile mind and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to contribute in Chic’s memory to your organization of choice.
