SOMERVILLE — Pumpkin Vine Family Farm, 217 Hewett Road, is set to hold a Yule Goat Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.

In Scandinavian tradition, the Yule Goat brings presents to children at Christmas, accompanied by the Tomten, a farm gnome who looks after the well-being of the animals. Yule Goats will greet visitors in the barn and lead walks in the woods.

Children are encouraged to come wearing the Tomten’s traditional floppy red hat. Boots and jackets are also encouraged.

The celebration starts with a traditional Scandinavian story followed by nature-based handcrafts. Participants can make a pine cone bird feeder or garland, then hike through the woods with Yule goats to decorate a tree for the wild birds.

There will be a European-style Christmas market of local crafts and farm-fresh treats, including Swedish meatballs, German pastries and hot mulled cider. The farmer’s market will offer snacks and farm fresh produce. Artisans were selected for their use of natural materials.
