Owen Kirk recorded a hat trick and also had an assist Messalonskee opened its boys’ hockey season with a 6-3 win over Lewiston at The Colisee.
Logan Baron and Alec Beckwith scored power-play goals and Denny Martin had an empty-netter. Tatum Doucette assisted on two goals, and Nathan Kirk made 17 saves.
Cam Plourde scored twice for Lewiston, the defending Class A champion. Coleman Mercier was the other goal scorer. Lewiston goalie Will Routhier stopped 16 shots.
KENTS HILL 6, THORNTON ACADEMY 1: Alex Wang notched a hat trick for the Huskies in a season-opening victory over the Golden Trojans in Readfield.
Nathan Roy, Liam Ross and Ben Harriman also scored for Kents Hill, and Gabe Robinson made 29 saves.
Trent Lesieur scored for Thornton, assisted by Cam Cyr and Jake Skillings. Trojans goalie Cameron Huot stopped 17 shots.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
FOREST HILLS 72, VINALHAVEN 35: Jaxson Desjardins scored 20 points and added 17 rebounds as the Tigers (2-0) defeated the Vikings (0-2) at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield.
Blaine Nadeau chipped in with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Hunter Hamilton led Vinalhaven with 17 points.
HALL-DALE 57, LISBON 41: Keegan Cary and Karter Eldridge led the Bulldogs to a road win over the Greyhounds in Lisbon.
Cary put up game-high 21 points, including 5-of-5 shooting at the free-throw line, and Eldridge finished with 14 points. Josias Brown added eight points for Hall-Dale (1-0).
Brandon Long topped Lisbon (0-1) with nine points, while Braiden Edens had seven and Owen Hurd and Nolan Parker scored six apiece.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 50, HALL-DALE 46: Alaina Kachnovich scored 22 points for the Phoenix in a win over the Bulldogs at Farmingdale.
Maddie Grimaldi added nine points.
Sierra Gibbons scored 13 points for Hall-Dale. Torie Tibbetts finished with 12.
FOREST HILLS 42, VINALHAVEN 6: Kelsey Rancourt scored 16 points as the Tigers (2-0) completed a weekend sweep of the Vikings (0-2) in Fairfield.
Janessa Moffit added 11 points.
Lydia Wentworth led Vinalhaven with four points.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 36, WINTHROP 30: Kaitlyn Frost scored 12 points as the Mustangs (1-1) beat the Ramblers (1-1) in Monmouth.
Maeve Burgess grabbed nine rebounds for Monmouth.
Ella Rice scored eight points to lead Winthrop.
MARANACOOK 43, OAK HILL 29: Celia Bergdahl scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Black Bears (2-0) over the Raiders (0-2) in Wales.
Alice Ferran chipped in with five points and 12 rebounds, while Gracie Farrell added six points.
Breanna McElhaney led Oak Hill with eight points.
MT. ABRAM 53, BOOTHBAY 22: Jenna Osgood’s 15 points paced the Roadrunners to victory over the Seahawks in Salem Township.
Sakari Savage added 11 points for Mt. Abram (1-0), and Kharlie Turner, Baliea Haines, Abby McCarty each had five.
Tatum French led Boothbay (0-1) with nine points, while Maddie Orchard had seven.
