LITCHFIELD — Fire destroyed a camp on Richmond Road Saturday night, displacing its tenant.
Firefighters from several area departments responded to 927 Richmond Road.
The tenant was not inside at the time of the fire and does not have pets. No injuries were reported.
Litchfield Fire Chief Michael Sherman said the fire was reported just after 9 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene for about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Firefighters from Richmond, Wales and Sabattus, as well as Gardiner Ambulance, responded to the scene, and Monmouth firefighters covered Litchfield’s fire station during the call. Sherman thanked the responding departments that assisted Litchfield firefighters.
Sherman said the cause of the fire appeared to be accidental and related to an electrical problem. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was consulted, but did not send an investigator to further look into the cause.
Sherman said the tenant of the building, whom he declined to identify by name, was staying with family members. He said the small camp-like building was not insured.
“It was a very, very small structure, so once the fire began, it spread rapidly to the entire structure,” Sherman said of the fire.
