Gerard C. Simard

AUGUSTA – Gerard C. Simard, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, following a long illness. He was born in Augusta, on Dec. 26, 1934, a son of the late Leon C. and Denise O. (Gosselin) Simard.

Mr. Simard was a graduate of Cony High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He had been employed for over 31 years at the VA Hospital at Togus in the Canteen Service where he was a Barber. He had previously worked at Plummer Funeral Home for 10 years.

Mr. Simard was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of: Augusta Masonic Lodge, Bethlehem Masonic Lodge, Kora Temple, Scottish Rites, Kora Flag Detail, Roses of Sharon Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Esther Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, North Augusta Trail Blazers, Marine Corps League, Tri-City Cycle Club, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Calumet Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, Janice M. (Dyer) Simard; a son, Donald E. Simard and his two sisters: Theresa Thibault and Ida Gregoire.

Mr. Simard is survived by three sons: G. Lee Simard and his wife Deb of Monmouth, David R. Simard and his wife Linda of Augusta and Dennis J. Simard and his wife Fran of Chelsea; two daughters: Susan M. Grant and her husband Tim of Augusta and Donna M. Wardwell and her husband Tony of China; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
