WINTHROP — A Monmouth man died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 202 in Winthrop, officials said.
Justin Mason, 28, died at the scene after his 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck collided at about 4:30 p.m. with a 2015 Dodge Durango driven by Mariah St. Laurent, 41, of Leeds at the intersection of Route 202 and Royal Street, according to the Winthrop Police Department.
The vehicles collided as Mason was westbound and St. Laurent was eastbound and slowing to make a left turn, according to police.
Mason’s passenger was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
St. Laurent was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The intersection was closed for several hours after police and other emergency workers arrived.
The crash remained under investigation Monday by the Winthrop Police Department, Monmouth Police Department and Maine State Police.
Winthrop police said the district attorney for Kennebec and Somerset counties has been notified about the crash.
