BELGRADE — Verna L. Hammond, 98, was awarded the Boston Post Cane on Dec. 10 as the oldest living resident of the town.

Verna was born in Belgrade on Dec. 4, 1926.

The presentation was attended by her son and his wife, Donald and Mary Hammond; daughter and husband, Deborah and Robert Thing; and daughter Mary Palange.

Selectboard Chair Carol Johnson and Town Clerk Mary Vogel presented the cane and a holiday bouquet to Verna Hammond.

The family will be provided with a framed certificate of the event. Per the town policy, all recipients of the Boston Post Cane will be memorialized by having their name engraved on a brass tag including the date of award and the length of time for which the cane is held by that individual.
