George E. Leavitt
AUGUSTA – George E. Leavitt, 78, of Augusta, passed away on Nov. 27, 2024. George was born May 26, 1946, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Ray Leavitt and Winola Millett. George graduated from Gardiner High School in 1966.
George joined the Naval Reserves as a SeaBee in 1964. He served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968 with the MCB-5, going from Port Hueneme, Calif. to De Nang, Vietnam. That was the start of George’s life in construction. He ended his career with the Maine UA LOCAL 716 Plumbers and Pipefitters. George had great memories of his union brothers.
George enjoyed time spent up to camp in T-19, where he met the Millays, and at Elmers Barn where he formed many friendships. He also enjoyed going to auctions, Popham Beach, and being a transporter for Avian Haven Bird Rescue.
George is survived by his wife Gail; daughter Christy Hatch; grandchildren Tyler, Jeffrey II, and Libby; great-grandchildren Harper and Jeffrey III; sister Violet Nolan; and many nieces and nephews
George was predeceased by his parents; siblings Teddy, Jimmy, LeRoy and Sandra; son Jeff; and granddaughter Ashley
RIP you ole hippie SeaBee, I’ll miss you.
There will be a Military service in the spring.
