Robert Alton Bragg

WINTHROP – Robert Alton Bragg, 75, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2024. He was born on Dec. 5, 1948, to Douglas and Doris Bragg. Robert’s life was marked by a deep love for family, art, and nature.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, fighting bravely in Vietnam, and later retired as a Captain in the Army National Guard. His dedication to his nation was matched only by his devotion to his family.

Known affectionately as “Bumpa” by his grandkids, he was an artist in every sense of the word. He wrote numerous books, painted, sculpted, and created unique art inspired by the natural world he adored. Through his creativity and kind spirit, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Bumpa was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and took immense joy in being part of their lives. From cheering at field hockey games for Winthrop and Husson to swimming in Echo Lake, his love and presence were constant.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: meatloaf, tacos, long walks, Bob Dylan songs, and liver and onions — though broccoli was never welcome on his plate. His passions and quirks made him uniquely lovable to those who knew him best.

Bumpa is survived by his loving family, his daughter, Bobbie Melissa “Lissa” and husband Jeffery Perkins; along with his treasured “goobies” grandchildren, Katelynne “Boo”, Gavin “GP”, and Madelynne “Mayberry”. He is also survived by his son, Douglas Bragg and wife Laura, and their children Leah, Douglas, Maya, Robert, Matthew, and Mark.

He leaves behind his sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Lindy Bragg and niece Chelsea; his brother, Kenny Bragg and wife Amber; sister-in-law, Leeann Bragg, nephew Jeremiah, and niece, Emma; and his “brother” Toshi Arasaki.

Bumpa was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Doris Bragg; his beloved brother and best friend, Douglas Bragg, his brother, Gary Bragg; and his niece, Sierra Sundance Bragg.

Bumpa’s life was a beautiful blend of service, artistry, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.

A celebration of Bumpa’s life will be held at East Monmouth United Methodist Church, 573 ME-135, Monmouth, on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.

In honor of his memory, take a long walk in nature, listen to Bob Dylan, or simply spend time with loved ones, as he so often did.
