Richard A. Roderick

CHELSEA – In a celebration of a life lived with zest, we remember Richard A. Roderick, known affectionally as Rick, who was born on the 16th of October 1947, in Augusta, Maine. His journey on earth came to a peaceful close on the 25th of December 2024.

Richard was a true Mainer, residing in Chelsea, where he embraced the adventurous spirit of the state. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies; hunting, fishing, boating, and camping were activities he held dear, reminiscent of his youthful days spent ice skating, skiing, and roller skating. His wit and charm were infectious, making him a beloved figure among his family, friends, and community. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971.

Richard was known for his smart mind and generous heart. After years of dedicated service as a maintenance electrician at Bath Iron Works, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Despite his professional accomplishments, what mattered most to Richard was his family. His steadfast love and devotion to his loved ones were his defining characteristics. As a husband, father, and brother, he was a pillar of strength, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a hearty laugh and a cold beer.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Arlene (Soucy) Roderick; and their sons, Brian (Danielle) and Richard. He also leaves behind his siblings, Nancy O’Conner, Ruth Stoneking, Paul, Roger, and Peter (Mary Lou) Roderick; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. His life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family.

Richard now joins his parents, Octave and Rita Roderick, his brother, Michael, and his in-laws, David O’Conner, Link Stoneking, and Cindy Roderick, in eternal rest.

Richard’s life is a tapestry of colorful memories, woven by those who knew and loved him. We invite everyone to share their cherished memories of Richard and to upload photos to the memorial page. These reminiscences will serve as a beautiful tribute to this extraordinary man, reminding us of all of his wit, his generosity, and his adventurous spirit.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at the VA Togus and Beacon Hospice for all of their care giving to Richard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, School Street, Gardiner. A private committal service will be held in the spring.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website, http://www.staplesfuneralhome.com.
