Irving E. Doughty Sr.

WHITEFIELD – With a spirit as adventurous as the scenic rides he loved, Irving E. Doughty Sr., fondly known as Irv, left an indelible mark on the world and the hearts of those who loved him. Born on Nov. 12, 1941, in Yarmouth, Irving’s life was a testament to his love for others, his faith, and his innate ability to make any situation lighter with his witty humor.

Irving’s journey was one of constant movement and exploration. Managing Jimmy’s Garage in Auburn for many years, then working for Jordan’s Meats in Portland for five years, then worked 26 years as a Machine Mechanic at General Electric until his retirement showcased his supportive nature and passion for tinkering on small engines, a skill he often applied to his beloved motorcycle. However, Irving was not just a man of machines, but also a man of faith and family, serving as a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and cherishing his role as a loving father and brother. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like motorcycle and ATV rides, fishing trips, camping adventures, and getting lost on scenic rides. Irving’s love for life was infectious, making every moment with him a memory worth cherishing.

Irving is survived by his daughters, Belinda St. Peter (Ken) and Tina Adams (Clifton Jr.), his son, Irving Jr. (Lori), and his daughter Catherine May (Benjamin). He also leaves behind his sisters Sylvia Preston and Betty Stevenson; 13 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.

Irving was preceded in death by his spouse, Margaret Doughty, his parents, Irving and Viola Doughty, his sister Alberta Leavitte, and his brothers, Gordon and Norman Doughty, and stepdaughter Kaytha Verge.

A memorial service honoring Irving’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., at the Fellowship Baptist Church, located at 237 Eastern Avenue, Augusta, with a reception celebrating Irv’s life following in the fellowship hall. A private committal will be held in the spring.
