Christine “Tina” Johnson
AUGUSTA – Christine “Tina” Johnson, 77, has, in her own words, “gone home” after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on Aug. 3, 1947, she was the eldest daughter of Christine Doyon and James Carney.
Tina lived and worked most of her life in the Augusta area and had a successful career as an advertising account executive at 92 Moose, and later operated her own cleaning business until retirement.
As someone who celebrated 35-plus years of sobriety, she was an inspiration to many. Tina believed in paying it forward, so she volunteered much of her free time to the program for sponsorship and support, and took great joy in seeing others succeed and live healthy happy lives.
Tina was predeceased by her parents and older brother, James Carney.
She is survived by her daughters Melissa Goocher, and wife Lauren Laplante of Randolph, Michelle Goocher of Sidney, her sisters Paula Dyer, Yvonne Carney, and Barbara Jenkins, her brother, Michael Carney and his fiancé Carla Mowatt. She was a loving mother, sister, and good friend who will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, January 9, from 2-4 p.m., at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Condolences, stories and photos may be shared through the funeral home website at: http://www.plummerfh.com.
In honor of her battle fought with Parkinson’s Disease, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Maine Parkinson Society, the New England Chapter of the Parkinson’s Foundation, or the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation to help others fight this debilitating disease.
