OAKLAND — Police are investigating a robbery that occurred early Thursday at the Big Apple Store at 7 Main St.
Oakland police Chief Rick Stubbert said the robbery was reported around 3 a.m. by a store employee. No arrests had been made, and no one was hurt during the robbery.
Thursday morning, people on social media were posting messages saying police were stopping vehicles to check for possible suspects.
The Big Apple is a busy store and gas station that is front and center when one approaches town from Kennedy Memorial Drive coming out of Waterville. It is near the Oakland Town Office, as well as the police and fire departments.
Stubbert said he expected to have more details about the robbery later Thursday.
An employee of the store who answered the phone just after 9:30 a.m. said the store was closed for a time after the robbery but opened back up around 6:30 a.m.
“We can’t really say much due to company policy,” the employee said. “Nobody was hurt, and it was a short interaction.”
He said the store is open 24 hours, seven days a week.
