Eric Thomas Perry
HALLOWELL – Eric Thomas Perry, 81, of Hallowell, passed away peacefully at MaineGeneral Medical Center on Jan. 15, 2025, surrounded by his wife of 62 years, Alice McPherson Perry, and their four children.
Born on Nov. 25, 1943, in Bear Point, Nova Scotia, to Rev. George F. and Edith (Greenwood) Perry, Eric moved to Maine with his family in 1956. There he built a life rooted in hard work and quiet devotion to those closest to him. He and Alice share 65 years together, a bond that became the foundation of their family. Eric retired from Central Maine Power as a First Class Lineman, where his strong work ethic and dedication earned the respect of his colleagues.
Eric’s life was defined by his deep connection to family, especially his cherished role as “Gramp” to his ten grandchildren. Whether he was sharing TV classics like Happy Days and Gilligan’s Island, teaching them to fish at Moosehead Lake, spoiling them with ice cream, visits from “The Candy Fairy,” or towing them around in tied-together sleds behind his snowmobile, Gramp’s quiet presence was a constant source of comfort and love for his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; his children, Eric (Pamela), John (Brenda), Daniel (Jennifer), and Jane (Leslie); his brother, Rodney (Marcia), sister, Dora Breland, sisters-in-law, Linda McPherson and Margaret Perry, and brother-in-law, John McPherson. Gramp is also survived by his 10 grandchildren who adored him: Rebecca, Hannah, Sydney (Jacob), Matthew, Cole (Merrick), Grace, Abby, Emma, Marinn, and Sawyer Perry; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Jackie and Gary Perry.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Third Floor West Wing in Augusta for their compassionate care during Eric’s final days.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 1, 2025, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home in Augusta.
Though he may no longer walk among us, his love for his family and countless small acts of kindness will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace, Eric/Dad/Gramp/Teddy. You will be missed.
