AUGUSTA — Will it be an early spring or six more weeks of winter for the Pine Tree State? The residents at the Augusta Center for Health & Rehabilitation are eager to find out with help from the Center’s own weather prognosticating groundhog mascot — Kennebec Kenny.

Kenny is scheduled to emerge from hibernation out of his burrow at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, the rough midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. His burrow is located in the center’s courtyard at 188 Eastern Ave. Kennebec Kenny’s predictions in 2023 and 2024 were 100% spot on, according to a news release from the center.
Visitors can join residents at Augusta Center for a Groundhog Day celebration for brunch treats and coffee, following Kenny’s prediction.
