Marilyn Evelyn (Frith) Fox
ATHENS – Marilyn Evelyn (Frith) Fox, 93, passed away on Jan. 14, 2025, at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Skowhegan. She was born on Jan. 12, 1932, daughter of Clarence and Marion Frith of Athens. She had one brother, Maynard Frith.
She graduated from Somerset Academy in 1948 and married James H. Fox in 1949. During their 75 marriage, she raised their five children in Athens. Mom was a member of the Somerset County Extension, the Athens Victory Club, and the Athens Grange.
In “retirement” Mom and Dad moved to the Maine coast: first Islesboro, then Belfast, then Stockton Springs. They wintered on Pine Island, Fla. Mom treasured the times spent with family at camps in Belgrade, Mayfield, Moosehead, and the blueberry farm camp in Kingsbury. She created many fine pieces of needlework that have become family heirlooms.
As Mom’s health declined, she and Dad moved back to Athens where she received support from family and several wonderful caretakers.
Mom is survived by her daughters. Catherine Goslin (Ron) of Veazie, Gloria Jenkins of Athens, Alice Goulette of Veazie, Joan Fox of Athens, and son George Fox (Christine) of Gorham. She is also survived by sister-in-law Marlene Frith of Athens; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her husband; parents; brother; grandson, Ryan Judd; grandson-in-law, Rick Martin; son-in-law, Bob Jenkins; and Joan’s partner, Harland Woodward.
A spring burial will be at Mt. Rest Cemetery in Athens followed by a Celebration of Life.
Arrangements are being made by Veilleux-Redington-Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, where a complete obituary can be seen at http://www.vrlfuneralhome.com in Waterville, Maine.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
