As we begin a new year, the board of directors of the Waterville Area Soup Kitchen wishes to publicly express profound gratitude to the communities of the greater Waterville area and celebrate those within these communities who make our operation possible.
The Waterville Area Soup Kitchen was founded in 2020 to fill the void left by the closure of the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen. We served our first eight meals on Nov. 16, 2020. Since that time WASK has served over 157,000 meals to some of the most vulnerable in our community, more than 82,000 in 2024 alone.
Operating Monday through Friday at the Lighthouse, the Soup Kitchen opens at 8 a.m. to offer a light breakfast and closes at 12:30 after serving a hot lunch.
In addition to providing meals, we operate as a warming center during the winter months, and throughout the year function as a resource center for guests to access the services of area agencies.
All of this demonstrates what generosity and volunteerism can accomplish. We are humbled both by the munificence of our neighbors (individuals, organizations, and businesses) who regularly contribute monetarily to this mission and by the fact that volunteers do every bit of the work of the Waterville Area Soup Kitchen. There are presently about 100 individuals who offer their time and goodwill to reach out a hand to those most in need.
Thank you!
