Carmen Thibodeau

AUGUSTA – Carmen Thibodeau, 83, of Augusta, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2025.

Born in Augusta to Amedee and Christine (Lacasse) Violette, Carmen attended St. Augustine Catholic School and graduated from Cony High School. Growing up she worked at Sunset Market, which her parents owned. She went on to work for the State of Maine, contributing her talents across several departments throughout her career. The longest held position was as a Hearings Reporter for the Public Utilities Commission.

Carmen found joy in creating heartfelt gifts for her family, including wedding and baby quilts, as well as knitting and crocheting hats and stuffed animal creations for the little ones in the family. She also enjoyed solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles and watching “Wheel of Fortune”, simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She was also an avid reader sometimes staying awake a good portion of the night because she couldn’t put the book down.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Diane Pruett and her sister, Pauline Garland.

Carmen is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Karen Otten and her husband Rich; granddaughter, Kristin House and her husband Will; great-grandchildren, Lily and Cooper House; and sister, Arlene Garwood and her husband Joe. She also leaves behind a caring extended family of nieces and nephews, many who viewed her as a second mother.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m., St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
