The movie “Tintamarre: On the Trail of Acadians in North America” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine in Lewiston.

LEWISTON — The Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine plan to host a viewing of the documentary “Tintamarre: On the Trail of Acadians in North America,” with discussion to follow. The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 51 Westminster St.

There is no fee for the programs, which are made possible by the Québec Delegation in Boston and by TV5MONDE.

This feature documentary pays homage to the special character of an enduring people: the Acadians. Two hundred years after expulsion of the Acadians by the British (1755-64), Acadian culture is still very much alive, according to a news release from FAC archivist Anna Faherty. But why do Acadians — whose ancestors founded the first colony in North America — have to keep making a racket to tell the world they’re still here?

A link to stream the film can be made available for those unable to join in person. For more information contact Faherty at [email protected] or 207-753-6545. To join the discussion virtually, get more information and to register visit usm.maine.edu.
