RICHMOND — Firefighters battled high winds that fanned a house and garage fire Tuesday afternoon on Main Street in Richmond, officials said.
Heavy smoke billowed from one end of the house at 442 Main St. at about 3 p.m. as firefighters from several communities worked to extinguish the blaze.
A two-bay garage on the end of the house appeared to have been destroyed by flames.

Fire trucks lined Main Street, also known as Route 197, in front of the burning property, which is across the street from Tender Soles Farm and Richmond Agway.
Town assessing records show the property is owned by Bobbi Bard, and the house was built in 1974.
Along with Richmond firefighters, crews from Bowdoinham, Dresden, Gardiner, Litchfield, Topsham and Wiscasset responded to the blaze.
