Lawrence Gerald Willette
CORAL, Fla. – Lawrence Gerald Willette, born April 5, 1954, went home to Jesus in the early hours of Nov. 25, 2024, in Cape Coral, Fla., at the age of 70. Larry spent the last year of his life there with his immediate family near, including his wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who he watched grow from newborn to a lively 15-month-old; crawling, walking and climbing onto everything she could reach, including his lap.
From childhood in North Anson, to the final months of life, Larry loved fishing and being outdoors. Down to earth and kind, conscientious and very easy to get along with, he won people over without trying. He loved simplicity and was content with what he had; always willing to give the shirt off his back to help somebody out. He was never interested in putting on a show (unless it was on the football field) or being the center of attention.
He enjoyed playing and watching sports, driving on country roads, taking his or his son’s dogs for walks through wood and field. He married Maribel Willette while stationed in Panama in the Army and brought her back to the States in 1978, where they had a son six years later. His greatest accomplishment and pride came from raising his son and witnessing the same love he always gave being passed down to his granddaughter at the beginning of her journey through life.
Larry is survived by spouse Maribel Willette of Cape Coral, Fla., son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Lidia Willette along with granddaughter Jemma Willette of Cape Coral, Fla., brother Bill Willette of Stratton, brother and wife Jim and Kim Willette of Embden, brother Gerald Willette of North Anson, sister Vicki Kenney of South Portland, sister and husband Norma and Jeff Fortin of North Anson, and sister and husband Susan and Jon Lewis of North Berwick.
A funeral and service will be held in summer, 2025 at Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta. Family and friends will be notified.
Donations are appreciated and may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
