POLAND — The second annual Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Winter Extravaganza, in partnership with the Bureau of Parks and Lands, is set for 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Range Pond State Park, 26 State Park Road.
Activities include snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling, guided walks, fly tying and wildlife identification.
The schedule of includes:
• Sunrise ice fishing, with gear, bait and instruction provided, beginning at 6:30 a.m. No fishing license is needed.
• People can stop in at the registration table to pick up a nametag, swag, and enter their name for door prize drawings, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
• Hong Kong Bubble Waffles, coffee and specialty hot cocoa for sale, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Ice fishing clinic, lead tackle exchange, wildlife/fish identification, tree scavenger hunt, and wild game campfire cooking, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Snowshoe Microspike Hike with Teens to Trails, 10 a.m.
• Snow Sculpting, 10 a.m.-noon.
• Introduction to Snowmobiling (snow dependent), 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• “The Wildlife That Lives Here” with Park Manager Chris Main, 1 p.m.
• Closing and door prize raffle, 3 p.m.
There is no cost. Warm clothing including jackets, boots, socks, hats and mittens are available at no charge from Maine Gear Share; email chelsea.lathrop@maine.gov to reserve items.
