Joseph Andrew Harakall
AUGUSTA – Joseph Andrew Harakall, 81, passed away on Jan. 29, 2025, at the Togus VA Medical Center. He was born on March 10, 1943, a son of Kathryn (Vojtko) and Joseph P. Harakall.
Joseph grew up in Lisbon Falls and was a graduate of Lisbon High School. He went on to further his education at the University of Maine at Orono before being drafted into the Army, where he served during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to Maine and ultimately earned his master’s degree.
For 55 years, he was married to Nancy (Nadeau) Harakall, who predeceased him in 2020.
Joseph was employed by the State of Maine at the Department of Health and Human Services for many years before his retirement. He was an active member of the Maine Service Employees Association, where he held leadership positions. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #964.
Joseph was an avid sports fan, rooting for all the New England sports teams. He thoroughly enjoyed politics and playing cribbage with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, and his brother-in-law, David Begos.
Joseph is survived by his children, John Harakall and his wife Maryann, Anne Wilson and her husband Jeff, and Susan Bora and her husband Roger; a sister, Christine Begos; and five grandchildren, Derek, Megan, Abigail, Ashlyn, and Mason.
A private graveside service will be held later this year at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn.
