MOUNT VERNON — Neighbors Driving Neighbors named board member Shelly Fitzgerald as its new president at the organization’s annual meeting in January.
Fitzgerald of Rome is a retired family nurse practitioner and one of the organization’s founding members. She has many years of volunteer leadership and community involvement, and she is on the Maine Wesleyan Board of Education and volunteers for the Union Church of Belgrade Lakes, according to a news release from Cindy Murphy, board member and Outreach Committee member.
Harald Bredesen, who served as president from January 2022 to January 2025, will continue to represent the nonprofit as director at large.
Kelli Burnham of Fayette and Sandy Shute of Rome were named new board members.
Neighbors Driving Neighbors volunteers provide free transportation for adults in Belgrade, Fayette, Mount Vernon, Readfield, Rome and Vienna for medical appointments, errands, exercise sessions, classes, shopping, socialization and volunteering.
