Patricia C. Leach

HALLOWELL – Patricia C. Leach, 97, died early Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2025, at the Woodlands Senior Living Facility in Hallowell, after a short illness.

She was born in Ashland on April 22, 1927, the daughter of the late Frank and Hellen (O’Clair) Moro. Upon the passing of her mom when she was 6, she relocated to Manchester to live with her aunt and uncle. Patricia attended Cony High School.

Patricia married Phillip V. Leach in June of 1958, and they were married until his passing in March of 2018, close to 60 years of marriage. They raised two sons, the late Ronald R. Bechard (Linda) of Hallowell, and David M. Leach (Jayne) of Farmingdale.

Patricia started her own business, Pat’s Custom-Made Draperies, and successfully ran that enterprise for over 30 years, furnishing some of the finer homes in the greater Augusta area, several Maine court houses, and the Maine State Senate chamber. Like everything she endeavored, her work was exceptional.

She was a 67-year member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallowell, serving on their parish council and as a long-time participant in their ladies guild charitable organization. She also belonged to the Augusta Garden Club and particularly enjoyed helping to decorate the Blaine House Mansion for Christmas each year. She NEVER missed a Red Sox broadcast!

Patricia was a gourmet cook, who enjoyed hosting gathering of family and friends at both their Hallowell home and summer cottage in Winthrop. With friends, there was often a game or two of Bridge played—she was an expert player.

Upon retirement Pat and Phil extensively traveled the USA from coast to coast, and eastern Canada, plus a very special 40th wedding anniversary trip to Italy. They were also very loyal parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, attending sporting events from Tee Ball, middle and high school games, American Legion baseball, and college baseball games including one memorable summer in Chatham, Mass. in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Both Pat and Phil were also very generous in contributions to continuing post-high school education for a number of family members.

Besides her parents; husband, Phillip; and son, Ronald; Patricia was predeceased by each of her five siblings, Clarence Moro, Sophie Willette, Louis Moro, Janet Theriault, and Frank “June” Moro. She also joins her very special best friend, Mary Acheson, in Heaven.

Patricia is survived by her son, David (Jayne) of Farmingdale, daughter-in-law, Linda Bechard (partner John) of Readfield; and grandchildren, Amy Abbott (Shane) of Farmingdale, Ryan Leach (Marie) of Bedford, N.H., Michael Bechard (Aly) of Augusta, Bart Bechard (Jennifer) of Hallowell, and Derek Bechard (Jennifer) of Augusta; plus nine great-grandchildren she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank the extraordinary care and love Mom received from the Woodland’s Assisted Living Facility and Beacon Hospice, and the exceptional medical services from Maine General Hospital, Dr. Mary Jo Fisher of Family Medicine Institute, and her post-surgery rehabilitation stay at the Maine Veterans Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 12 Summer St., Hallowell, ME 04347. Burial will take place in the spring at Hallowell Cemetery.
