The North Pond Association is set to host the Pike Ice Fishing Derby from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at North Pond. North Pond is part of Mercer, Rome and Smithfield.
This derby features two divisions: one for participants 16 and older, and another for children 15 and younger.
Prizes in both divisions are awarded based on the heaviest pike caught. In the first division, the prizes are $500 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. The prize for the children’s division is a lifetime fishing license.
Organizers will be stationed at the boat landing on North Shore Drive on the Mercer/Smithfield town line for the weigh-in at the end of the derby.
Tickets can be purchased online until just before the kickoff of the derby at 6 a.m. Feb. 22. The cost is $15 for ages 16 and older, and $5 for those 15 and younger.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
