Sherri-Lea Peniuk
ELLSWORTH – Sherri-Lea Peniuk, 64, died unexpectedly Feb. 18, 2025 in Ellsworth.
She was born May 18, 1960 to Sylvester and Sally-Jayne (Maranville) Peniuk in Pittsfield, Mass.
She grew up between Lanesborough, Mass. and Plymouth, Vt. After graduating in 1978 from Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass. she went on to attending Berkshire Community College where she earned her associate’s degree in nursing. She worked as an RN in Belfast and at Eastern Maine Medical in Bangor for 25-plus years. After she lost her partner in 2014 she then moved to Mercer where she resided for 10 years.
She was a lifelong lover of animals having many, many cats and dogs over the years. Her Mom, Sally, lived with Sherri the last couple years of her life and they enjoyed spending time together by taking day trips to the coast and going out to eat. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching cooking channels and played games on her tablet.
She was predeceased by her mother, Sally-Jayne Peniuk, father, Sylvester Peniuk; partner, Mary Schultz of 26 years; cousin, Tracy Hewitt; aunt, Jeannette Tillotson; and her life saving Pomeranian “Sasha”. Thank you Sasha!
She is survived by her stepmom, Virginia “Ginny” Peniuk of Pittsfield, Mass.; half-sister, Elizabeth (Chris) Williams, uncle and aunt, AJ and Carolyn Maranville of Claremont, N.H.; cousins AJ Maranville III, Julie Maranville, Mary Lou (Todd) Tillotson, Marianne Adams, Thomas (Melanie) Tillotson, Charles “Nick” (Ellie) Tillotson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to her good friend, Yolanda Violette, who helped in many ways over the last several years, especially just being there. We would also like to thank all the staff at the Magnolia Assisted Living Facility for their care, attention and the friendships that were made which made living in a facility more acceptable. You are all wonderful!
A burial will be held in the Spring of 2025 at the Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Sherri-Lea to the

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
