ANSON — A fire that was reportedly started by overheated cooking oil damaged a home and displaced a family Saturday night on River Road in Anson, an official said.
One of the home’s residents was preparing dinner when cooking oil became too hot and burst into flames, Chief Stacy Beane of the Anson Fire Department said.
Beane said the resident attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the fire spread quickly.
The Fire Department arrived at 878 River Road at about 5 p.m., Beane said, and was at the scene until about 8:30 p.m.
No one was injured, she said, and the residents were able to get their two dogs out safely.
The home sustained substantial damage to the kitchen and living room, Beane said.
The Fire Department contacted the American Red Cross to assist the family.
Along with firefighters from Anson, crews from Madison, Skowhegan and Starks responded to the fire, while the Norridgewock Fire Department provided station coverage.
