WATERVILLE — The Waterville Public Library is set to launch the 2025 Waterville Seed Library. This free public resource features 20-plus varieties, including tomato, pumpkin, summer lettuce mix, green beans, and more.
Beginning on the Spring Equinox — Thursday, March 20 — while supplies last, garden seed packets can be picked up at the 73 Elm St. library. A seed starting workshop is planned for 5-6 p.m. Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22.
The seed library provides community members with resources to grow healthy, sustainable food at no cost. It helps to reclaim seeds as a public resource and fosters a culture where local growing knowledge is easily shared.
The seed library is made possible through a partnership with the Colby Office of Civic Engagement, Waterville Public Library, FEDCO Seeds, and Johnny’s Selected Seeds. The Colby Office of Civic Engagement and the Ohanian-Szostak Fellows for Civic Leadership provided project funding and support.

We believe it’s important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
