FARMINGDALE — Hall-Dale High School hosted its Health & Wellness Fair on March 13.

The gathering provided students with an educational experience centered on maintaining a healthy mind and body. The school welcomed community guests and experts who shared insights and resources on a variety of health and wellness topics, reinforcing the connection between well-being and academic success.

Students rotated through 30-minute sessions designed to encourage healthy habits and self-care strategies, according to a news release from Regional School Unit 2 Education Liaison Kelly Byron.

The topics included:

• Healthy nutrition: Students participated in an interactive game of Nutrition Jeopardy, learned how to read nutrition labels, discovered healthy eating tips, and explored basic cooking skills. Some students took part in a live cooking demonstration, preparing a nutritious morning meal.

• Stress management: Hands-on demonstrations provided students with practical techniques for managing stress, equipping them with skills that will benefit them now and in the future.

• Physical fitness: A certified personal trainer highlighted the importance of overall fitness, focusing on strength, balance and flexibility through interactive demonstrations.

• Health screenings: Students learned about the significance of monitoring blood pressure and took part in an interactive demonstration on the effects of sun exposure on the skin.

The school collaborated with professionals from MaineGeneral Healthy & Prevention Living Center, Healthy Communities of the Capital Area, MaineGeneral Workplace Health, Kennebec Valley YMCA, and Downtown Yoga to deliver these sessions. The event’s vendor fair featured local organizations and resources, included Cotone Family Chiropractic, Family Violence Project, Options Program, MaineGeneral Sports Medicine, NAMI Maine, Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center, Al-Anon/Alateen, and the Augusta Recreation Department.

“Understanding the local resources available to support students’ mental and physical health is essential for fostering overall well-being and academic success,” said Byron. “By raising awareness of these resources, we empower students to take charge of their health and build a strong foundation for their future.”
