Noah Weeks, 40, was being held as of Thursday at the Somerset County Jail with no bail on the charges stemming from Tuesday’s incident, Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said in a statement issued Thursday.

At about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sheriff’s Office investigators were beginning to execute a search warrant on a vehicle and residence on Oak Street, Lancaster said. The search warrant was related to an investigation into suspected illegal drug sales and reported stolen property possibly being at the residence.

A detective and deputy executing the search warrant saw a suspect in their investigation driving on Ward Hill Road in Madison, Lancaster said. They tried to stop the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

“After a short chase, the suspect drove the motor vehicle across the lawn of a residence on the Ward Hill Road, exited the vehicle, and fled into the woods,” Lancaster’s said in the statement.

Deputy Andrew Bowman and his police dog, named Reeves, then were called to track the suspect, Lancaster said.

“K-9 Reeves located the suspect who had climbed approximately 40 feet up a tree to avoid apprehension,” Lancaster said in the statement. “Initially, the suspect refused to climb down from the tree, but after approximately 1 hour, the suspect climbed down from the tree and surrendered.”

The suspect was identified as Weeks.

Investigators said that during the search of the residence and vehicle, they found and seized more than 23 grams of fentanyl, items and documentation related to illegal drugs, two pistols and “other articles believed to be stolen property.”

For Tuesday’s incident, Weeks was arrested and charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, Class C possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Class C eluding an officer, Class E refusing to submit to arrest or detention, Class E operating without a license, Class E driving to endanger and Class E violation of condition of release, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Police also arrested Weeks on warrants out of Penobscot County for failure to appear in court on charges of robbery, theft, eluding an officer, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, driving to endanger, operating after suspension, violation of condition of release, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and other charges, Lancaster said.

While Weeks is being held without bail on the new charges from Tuesday, bail on the Penobscot County warrants had already been set. Online jail records show cash bail for three different sets of charges set at $15,000, $1,000 and $1,000 each.

Weeks is scheduled to appear before a judge in Skowhegan on Friday, when bail on the new charges in Somerset County could be set. Weeks could also be appointed a lawyer, if necessary, at that appearance.

A second male suspect at the residence when the search warrant was executed was taken by ambulance to the hospital for a possible medical issue, Lancaster said. His name was not released Thursday.

The Somerset County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case.
