Noel “Clem” Vigue

WATERVILLE – Noel “Clem” Vigue of Waterville died March 17, 2025, at the Veterans home in Augusta at the age of 98. He was born on Christmas day in 1926, the son of Rose M. (Poulin) and Gideon B. Veilleux.

He was a proud Navy man, leaving high school and home at the young age of 17 years old to serve in World War II where he was stationed in Guam. While he was stationed in Guam, he told family that he wanted to donate $1,000 dollars to Saint John’s Catholic School if he returned from the service unhurt. He upheld that commitment for years. On his return he finished his high school diploma at Waterville High School. Shortly after, he met his wife Joan Crabtree, they went on to have their family of four children, Darrell Vigue, Duane Vigue, Kerry Vigue and Heidi Vigue (Gilbert). He was employed by the railroad and later Keyes Fibre Company. He served on the City Counsel in Waterville. He was also a Commander of the VFW in Waterville as well as the Commander of the American Legion.

He was an avid ball player as well as a hockey player in his younger days and enjoyed his beloved Red Sox and Notre Dame teams. He also enjoyed his Canadian hockey teams. He was an umpire for many years in the area. Noel gave of himself in many ways. When he met his second wife Theresa, they enjoyed helping their community and volunteered at the soup kitchen in Waterville together. Once a week, he would pick up food deliveries. He was known for always helping someone out. Noel’s highlight in life was spending his vacations at Moosehead with family and friends. He had many fishing stories. He also was known as an avid card player; particularly, cribbage, hearts and spades. It was always a playful celebration if you came away with a win against him.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Theresa, sisters Ursula Veilleux, and Marcelle Veilleux, brothers Lawrence Veilleux, Norman Vigue, and Raymond Vigue; son Kerry Vigue; Joan Vigue, stepsons Patrick Parker and Steven Parker.

He is survived by his sister Dolores Hutchison of Waterville, sister-in-law Adeline Veilleux of Waterville; daughter Heidi Gilbert and husband Mark of Mount Vernon, son Duane Vigue and wife Terry of Gouldsboro; son Darrell Vigue and wife Kit of Hong Kong, stepdaughter Sue and husband Steve Dubois of Winslow, stepdaughter Gail Parker Labbe and husband Tim Labbe of Rome, stepdaughter Brenda Parker, of Winslow; six grandchildren, Adam Vigue, Aaron Vigue, Brett Vigue, Ethan Gilbert, Jordan Gilbert, Sydney Gilbert; one great granddaughter Sophie Vigue; and many nephews and nieces. He also left behind a very special family friend who was with him till the end, Bobby Genest.

The family would like to thank the Veterans’ Home for all their great care and support given to Noel and the family.

Visitation hours for family and friends will be at Veilleux funeral home at 8 Elm St. Waterville Maine on Thursday the 27th of March. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame church on Silver St. Waterville, on March 28 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life luncheon will follow the mass, at Saint John’s School in Winslow, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
