PITTSFIELD — A chain-reaction crash shortly after 4 p.m. Friday slowed traffic on Interstate 95 in the Pittsfield area for more than three hours.

The crash took place in the northbound travel lane near mile marker 154. The highway is down to one lane of traffic, said Lt. Aaron Turcotte, troop commander for the Maine State Police.

A tractor trailer, operated by Serhii Milchecko, 47, of Nova Scotia, was traveling north when it was rear-ended by a Kia sedan, driven by a 17-year-old from Winslow. A Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Desiree Chenette, 35, of Lincoln, then struck the rear of the Kia.

Both sedans sustained significant damage.

Both Chenette and the juvenile were treated by emergency services and released at the scene.

At the time of the crash, officials said  heavy traffic delays were expected.
