Daniel C. Pratt

CLINTON – Daniel C. Pratt, 86, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2025, at Oak Grove Center in Waterville where he resided the past 16 months.

Dan was born in Waterville on Dec. 31, 1938, to Earl and Bernice (Dow) Pratt of Clinton. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1956. Dan briefly attended the University of Maine in Orono but chose to return home to marry the love of his life, Marianne (Barrett) Pratt on August 16, 1958.

In his younger years, Dan volunteered for the Clinton Fire Department and was employed at Ski-Land Woolen Mill. But when the chance came to work outdoors, he jumped. Dan worked as a forest fire watchman, fire ranger, insect ranger, and eventually retired as an Entomologist.

Dan was a faithful member of Brown Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton, and served as a youth leader with Marianne when their daughter, Gretchen, was a teen. He was also a Lay Speaker, delivering more than a few sermons and narrations of Easter and Christmas Cantatas over the years. He was always complimented on his speaking voice.

Dan was a Past Master of Sebasticook Lodge #146 AF & AM, as well as Fireside Chapter #103 O.E.S. in Clinton. To list all of his other Masonic affiliations and accomplishments over 52 years would be futile. Something would be left out or mis-stated. Ultimately, he would have had none of them without his Lodge.

Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Maine history. He loved traveling and saw much of the United States, including Alaska, as well as visits to Paris and Germany, especially Oktoberfest in Munich. His two favorite places were anywhere with his family and Lily Bay.

Dan was predeceased by his parents; his lovely wife of nearly 50 years, Marianne, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Mellan, and sister-in-law, Edna Barrett.

He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen and her husband Scott Malloch of Carmel; his sister, Ruth Ann Mellan of Colorado Springs, brother-in-law, Laurence Barrett and companion of 14 years, Suzanne Jenkins of West Virginia. He is also survived by a large extended family, genealogical and fraternal.

There will be visiting hours Saturday, April 5 beginning at 9:30, followed by a Masonic Service at 10:30, and a regular service at 11:00. Light refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Hall. All will occur at Brown Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton,
