“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” — John F. Kennedy, 1961

I have always so admired these words, spoken during another tumultuous time in America’s history. Nothing, however, compares to the catastrophe we find ourselves in today, where the remaining vestiges of this nation are crumbling before our very eyes. Many comparisons and yes, even warnings, have been made to 1930s Germany, Hitler’s rise to power and his dismantling of the pillars of Germany’s institutions within 60 days after becoming chancellor.

Not only are at least half of U.S. citizens horrified by what is happening in the country we hold so dear, we can hardly keep up with the devastation created in such a short while. It is beyond comprehension how so many in this Trump administration can be such angry, egotistical and self-absorbed individuals who care little about — and in many cases despise — their fellow human beings.

I ask, what in heaven’s name can we do for our country to save it from its current malignant cast of characters, spurred on by someone so utterly self-absorbed and without scruples, whose goalposts seem to end at wrath and revenge.
