Dorothy Elaine Burrill
CANAAN – Dorothy Elaine Burrill, 96, started her life on Jan. 10, 1929, in Perham, Maine, the first daughter of Forest and Bernice (Dickinson) Tarbox.
She enjoyed her childhood growing up with her two brothers Paul and Keith, and her younger sister Marjorie. She graduated from Washburn High, class of 1948. One of her first jobs was picking potatoes, from there she enjoyed working at Cottles and Hannaford for many years, and finally McDonalds before retiring.
Dorothy married the love of her life Ivory E. Burrill on March 24, 1953, enjoying her life for 28 years before his passing on June 2, 1981. Together Dorothy and Ivory raised two sons, Ivory (Sonny) Burrill, Jr. and Arthur Forest Burrill, and one daughter, Sue Ann Burrill.
Her life was filled with fishing, boating, playing mini golf, board games, and watching her daytime soaps and Hallmark movies, though just enjoying time with her family was her greatest joy. She also loved watching hummingbirds and robins because that meant Spring was here.
On March 31, 2025, Dorothy started her new life with the Lord in His kingdom. She is now enjoying family time with her beloved husband Ivory, their son Sonny, and her two brothers Paul and Keith who went home to be with the Lord before her.
She is survived by her sister Marjorie Baumgartner with her husband William; her son Arthur Burrill with his wife Diane, her daughter Sue Buzzell with her husband Dick, and stepson Schuyler Burrill with his wife Jackie; also, eight grandchildren Mathew, Christina, Jeremy, Teianna, Michael, Rachel, Michael, and Cecelia; along with many great-grandchildren, as well as several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care and their great professional team of RN’s / CNA’s Tammy, Jess, Chrissy, Nikki, Jessica, Alison, and Pam.
Dorothy’s final request was for her family to celebrate her life at her favorite place to dine at Ken’s Restaurant.
A private graveside service will be held with family in the spring.
