Douglas Paul Picariello
HARMONY – Douglas Paul Picariello of Harmony, 72, passed away on March 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Pasquale Picariello and Gloria Picariello (Nazzaro). Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Joyce Marie Picariello (Johnston), and his sister Judy Warren (Picariello).
He is survived by his brother Stephen Picariello and his wife Eileen; his son Douglas Picariello and his wife Elizabeth Picariello and their daughter Maria Picariello; and his son Stephen Picariello and his wife Ashley Picariello and their children, Elisa and Trevor Picariello. Doug is also survived by many nieces and nephews, to whom he was always “Uncle Big Doug.”
Doug moved to Pembroke, Mass.. at an early age where he graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School and began his career as a pressman before moving to Harmony, Maine, in 1983. There, he dedicated 42 years to the Harmony Elementary School Department as Head of Maintenance and Director of Transportation. He took immense pride in his work, driving multiple generations of children to school. He also served as the longtime Harmony soccer and baseball coach; he led the soccer team to an undefeated season in 1993 and kept his side of a bet he made with the team by shaving his mustache for the first and last time. Doug treated all kids equally and always took an interest in getting them to realize their full potential.
A constant in the community, Doug was always among the first to lend a hand when needed. He was a fixture at the Skowhegan State Fair Walter Hight Memorial each year, where he loved to “feed the ponies” and at the Harmony Labor Day Fair where he could always be found flagging for the demolition derby. Doug also loved playing cards with friends.
Doug put family first, always. He prioritized spending time with and was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Elisa, Trevor, and Maria. He found his greatest joy in preparing and hosting Sunday dinners—rain, snow or shine, in good health and bad. Sunday dinner is a non-negotiable in the Picariello household.
Doug’s humor, unwavering dedication to his community and loved ones will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
