Sunny Brown
WATERVILLE – On the evening of March 17, 2025, our dear Mrs. Sunny Brown left our world, surrounded by her children. Sunny leaves behind her son, Jesse and daughter, Amy; her ex-husband, and their father, Peter. Her children were her life’s true blessings. She had many nieces and nephews who were all so incredibly special to her.
Sunny taught primary ages in school for 35 years, seven years in Gardiner, and 28 years at Vassalboro Community School. Sunny appreciated her many colleagues. The relationships with her students and parents meant the world to Sunny.
Sunny was so incredibly grateful to her oncologist, Doctor Pockinghorn, as well as the nursing staff and support during her life from HACC. She also had great relationships at her swim classes at the Waterville AYCC. She had close friends, who she called her “cancer posse,” who accompanied her to her treatments and kept her in good spirits during her cancer journey.
Sunny will be remembered by all, as a resilient beacon of light for those of us to follow. Not only a teacher of academics, but she was a teacher of life and an unwavering support system. She was a space for safety and understanding, but she also had a great sense of humor to carry the room. The community has lost a pillar, but we shall continue with gratitude and grace for her presence.
Sunny’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 19, from 1 – 4 p.m. in the recreation room, at the Henry Alfond Center, YMCA Boys & Girls Club, located on North Street in Waterville. This event is open to the public and we are encouraging a potluck.”

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
