Lila C. Watson

CLINTON – Mom passed away peacefully, March 26, 2025, with her loving family by her side. While her death was sudden and unexpected, her family and friends will always cherish the time we spent with her and the memories she leaves behind.

Mom was a preverbal whirlwind going nonstop until the time of her illness. She traveled the country, cruised the Caribbean, toured Europe, the Panama Canal, and visited the tulips of Holland. She was an active member order of the Eastern Star holding many positions over the years and making lifelong friends along the way. The Clinton evening extension and the Brown Memorial Methodist Church were also near and dear to her heart.

In 1961, Lila married David Lee Watson and set down roots in the town of Clinton. There they raised two children in a beautiful home on Pleasant Street. Dad worked full time and ran a business after hours so Mom could stay home. Anyone who knew Mom (who didn’t?) knew she rivaled Martha Stewart with her home making abilities, could cook circles around Emerald Lagasse, and out bake Julia Childes on any given day. Gossip spread like wildfire around town when Lila and the ladies of town got to talking. Modern day Facebook pales in comparison.

Lila was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, David Watson; her father, Sherwin and mother, Margarett Crosby; sister, Janet Price, brother, James Crosby, sister-in-law, Trudy Crosby; and nephew, Steven Crosby.

Lila is survived by brother, Bently Crosby; her best friend (sister CaroleAnn Johnston); daughter, Laurie Dale and husband David; son, David “Skip” Watson II and wife Lorriann; grandchildren Devon, Jonathan, Lauren and Matt; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Although Mom’s voice will never again be heard on Earth, we can hear her now giving St. Peter advise on how to put a better shine on the “pearly gates”.

Lila’s funeral will be held on Saturday April 12 at 10 a.m. at the Brown Memorial Methodist Church in Clinton. Refreshments and time to reflect will follow in the dining area of the church. A graveside service at Green Lawn Rest Cemetery will take place on June 9, at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank her friends and family for their prayers and warm wishes. We would also like to thank the special and caring folks of Beacon Hospice.
