ATHENS – Mrs. Sandra Lee Whiting, 65, of Athens, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, in Athens. Born on May 2, 1959, in Skowhegan, Sandy lived a life marked by compassion, devotion, and unwavering faith.

Her love for family was the cornerstone of her life. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Timothy Whiting; her daughter, Sarena Haynie, son-in-law, Andrew Haynie; and her cherished grandchildren Ella, Silas, Finn, and Abram.

Tim and Sandy were married for 45 years, they raised a daughter, and built two houses together. They enjoyed motorcycle rides, and hunting for antiques all over the state and beyond. Most Saturday mornings you could find them on the porch sipping coffee or heading out to breakfast.

Sandy found immense joy in watching her grandchildren play sports and took great pride in being their devoted Nana. Sleepovers, birthday shopping trips, baking pumpkin whoopie pies, knitting or building forts, she was always invested in whatever her grandchildren wanted to do.

Sandy dedicated 40 years of her professional life as a registered nurse at Redington Fairview General Hospital. Her career was a reflection of her deep commitment to caring for others—a calling she fulfilled with grace and diligence. Her faith was central to who she was—she attended Church of the Open Bible in Athens faithfully and loved the Lord deeply.

She is also survived by her sister, Julie and husband Don Miller, brother, Dana and wife Nancy Martin, and sister, Lori and husband Rod Wiles; and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Anna Martin; as well as her brother, Dennis Martin.

A funeral service to honor Sandy’s life will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at Church of the Open Bible on Main Street in Athens.

Loyal, hardworking, and selfless to the end, Sandy leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she will be greatly missed here on Earth, there is comfort in knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven with her beloved parents and brother.
