CHELSEA — Two people were seriously injured Wednesday when the car they were traveling in crossed the center line and collided head-on with a logging truck, police said.

Amanda Meader, 46, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze on Togus Road, and a passenger, Preston L. York, 61, were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to a news release from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

The front of the car was crushed in the collision, and Meader and York were trapped in the vehicle when Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Van Wyk arrived on the scene at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday.

Van Wyk also discovered the logging truck on fire at the scene, near 510 Togus Road.

Chief Deputy Chris Read said 71-year-old Larry Bartlett of Washington, the driver of the logging truck, was not injured in the crash, but he was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta for blood testing, given the severity of the crash and the initial potential for fatal injuries.

Both vehicles were destroyed and towed away from the scene by AC Towing. Van Wyk and Maine State Police specialists continue to investigate and reconstruct the crash.
