Kerrie (Shepherd) O’Brien

VEAZIE – Kerrie (Shepherd) O’Brien, 54, died peacefully at home March 29, 2025. She was born in Augusta on Dec. 5, 1970, to Wallace and Merry (Atkins) Shepherd.

She was a graduated of Gardiner Regional High School then went to Lyndon State College in Vermont and The Hallmark School of Photography in Massachusetts. After graduation she moved to Atlanta, Ga. and worked at a film lab as a color finisher and then following her heart and love of animals she went to work at Morningside Animal Care where she trained to become a Vet Tech. She moved back to Maine in 2007 and found work at Veazie Veterinary where she was a much-loved employee. She fostered hundreds of kittens for the Bangor Humane Society and the Old Town Animal Orphanage.

She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor and was involved in many aspects of the congregation over the years including holiday wreath making, a member of Women WithWings, where she found spiritual awareness, and serving for two years as their Council Chairperson.

She was predeceased by her father. She is survived by her mother, Merry Atkins Shepherd of Veazie; brother Skeet Shepherd and wife Anna, brother Shane Shepherd and wife Miranda, sister Donna Laferriere and husband Gene, brother Joe Hannigan and wife Trish; Uncle (George) Joe Atkins and wife Beth; her former spouse, Amy Damboise; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.

The family would like to thank Kerrie’s special friends Krista Watson and BranDan Turner and St. Joseph Hospital Hospiceand their staff for their excellent care.

A celebration of life will be conducted on April 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society at 120 Park Street, Bangor, Maine.
