‘Born to Run’ concert planned at Chocolate Church
Diaspora Radio plans to perform Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” in its entirety at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the Chocolate Church, 804 Washington St. in Bath.

The Portsmouth, New Hampshire group is known for its horns, driving rhythms, unforgettable melodies, and anthemic storytelling. With tracks like “Thunder Road,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out,” and the title track, “Born to Run,” the album has had real staying power in the rock ’n’ roll hit pantheon.
Each show begins with some background information delivered by band member Zach Foote, a music historian and archivist.

The Smith Collaboration plans Madison show
The Smith Collaboration pays tribute to Janis Joplin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Somerset Abbey, 98 Main St.

The six-piece band gives tribute to Janis Joplin. Made up of established players, the group brings its own dynamics to upbeat rock, blues and R&B/soul classics of Joplin from the Big Brother and the Holding Company years right through to Fill Tilt Boogie.
The Smith Collaboration features Larissa Smith (lead vocals, keys) Chuck Smith (lead guitar, vocals) Troy House (drums, vocals) and Michael Krapovicky (bass, vocals).
Book launch, Earth Day events set for Farmington
University of Maine at Farmington professor Bodhi Simpson, author of the award-winning book “The Girl Who Cried for the Earth, A Story of Hope, Healing & Possibilities,” is presenting several Earth Day-related events on April 19 and 22 in the UMF Emery Community Arts Center.

A Family Wellness Day is set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 19, and an Earth Day Celebration event will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22.The events are free and open to the public.
The original paintings from the book will be on display from April 19-May 9.
Simpson will share her story along with images of the original painted illustrations Saturday. Following the story, she will facilitate a brief guided meditation and supportive creative practice with drawing materials.
The April 22 Earth Day event will feature a book launch in the Emery Performance Space with Simpson who will speak about the message of the book.

Bard’s Birthday Bash to be held in Waterville
The 12th annual Bard’s Birthday Bash & Sonnet Stroll, presented by the Recycled Shakespeare Company, is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, April 19, on The Concourse in Waterville.
The Sonnet Stroll begins with a reading from a selection of Shakespeare’s sonnets.
Those interested in participating can gather between The Villager Restaurant and The Yardgoods Center at 8:45 a.m., the Waterville Library at 10 a.m., then the group will proceed through the rest of the businesses on the poster, stopping for lunch about 12:30 p.m. at Jin Juan Restaurant. The event will wrap up between 2-5 p.m. at Selah Tea on Main Street.
Participants are welcome for the entire day or whenever their schedule allows.
A cake and social time is planned at 5:30 p.m. at The Fairfield House of Pizza, 207 Main St., Fairfield.
The Sonnet Stroll stops are: Yardgoods Center Villager Restaurant, Waterville Public Library, ReBooks Wild Clover Cafe Sword Demonstration (around 10:45-11 a.m.), Pickles Potions Incense and Peppermints, Day’s Jewelers, Holy Cannoli, Record Connection, Waterville Creates, Jin Yuan (stop for lunch), Robin’s Nest, and Selah Tea (2-5 p.m.)

Young Tradition Touring Group plans Lewiston concert
Young Tradition Touring Group Trad Concert with Ellen Gawler & Friends is set for 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 247 Bates St. in Lewiston.

The auditioned trad band of 22 young musicians based in Vermont plan to share a program of music rooted in Québec, Vermont, Maine and Scandinavia. Audiences can expect to hear fiddle harmonies, ukulele and guitars to harp, banjo, keyboard, and a chorus of violins. The Touring Group will be joined by Maine tradition bearer Ellen Gawler and friends.
Michael Jackson experience set for Augusta
