Jaycie Christopher, the 2022 Miss Maine Basketball winner and Gatorade Maine Player of the Year, is transferring to the University of Southern Maine after spending three seasons at the University of Maine, a family member confirmed in a text on Friday.

Christopher recently completed her junior season at Maine. She played 28 games, averaging 2.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game. The Black Bears went 15-16 and lost to Albany in the America East semifinals.

In 82 career games at UMaine, Christopher averaged 3.0 points and 1.5 rebounds.

Christopher is the all-time leading scorer at Skowhegan, with 1,561 points, and led the River Hawks to the program’s first Class A championship in 2022. She averaged 24 points and 10 rebounds during her high school career. In 2022, she received the Miss Maine Basketball award, presented to the top senior player in the state. That same year, Christopher won the Miss Maine Softball award.

Christopher signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Boston University and participated in summer workouts with the Terriers in 2022. But that July, Christopher asked for and was released from her NIL, and decided instead to play for coach Amy Vachon at UMaine.

In her first season at UMaine, Christopher played 30 games, including three starts. She averaged 20.9 minutes and 4.9 points. As a sophomore, she played in all 34 games as the Black Bears went 24-10 and won the America East title, averaging 13.1 minutes.

Maine is also losing Caroline Dotsey, who is transferring to Butler. Dotsey played two seasons with the Black Bears, including 31 games this season, averaging 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

USM went 18-10 in 2024-25 and lost to UMass Dartmouth, 94-50, in the Little East Conference championship game on March 1.

Christopher’s brother, Marcus, started 30 games from 2020-22 for the USM men’s basketball team. He is now an assistant coach at UMaine-Farmington.
